Surprisingly Easy Ways to Save Money on Your Next Vacation

I love to travel, but it can be a burden or seem out of reach sometimes because of finances. I love taking multiple vacations a year, and the money it costs can definitely add up. As I'm getting older and trying to be smarter in the way I spend my hard-earned money, I've found so many ways to save money when it comes to traveling! Here are some of my tips!

Try not to plan a vacation during peak season

You can save hundreds of dollars just by doing this. Honestly, I love going somewhere when it's not as crowded and you don't have to wait in a huge line for attractions. Be mindful when you go, because somethings completely shut down when it's not peak season, so also make sure things you're going to want to do will still be in operation. The downside is the weather may not be the best, but just make sure you pack appropriately! This is why you'll see me traveling mostly in the spring and fall months.

Stay close to home

Take a road trip and stay close to home. There are so many beautiful destinations all around us. Even something an hour away can be eye-opening and fill your need to travel. If you take your own car, you won't have to worry about flights or car rentals- which is a money saver in its self. Find some unique places near you on Pinterest. Just search "best road trips from ______" etc.

Stay in a rental instead of a hotel

Airbnb can be way cheaper than staying in a hotel. I love looking at Airbnb because you can find some really cute and interesting places to stay- people even rent out their campers. Look at the reviews to make sure you're going to be staying in a clean and safe place at the location you want. Sometimes Airbnbs can be more expensive than a hotel depending on the location, so make sure you look at all the options! If you do stay at a hotel- make sure it includes free breakfast!

Book your flight at the right time

Flight prices change constantly, so it's so important to check daily to make sure you book your flight to get the cheapest ticket! This alone can save you hundreds! Check out this helpful link that tells you when to book your flight in advance, and the cheapest days to book!

Be your own tour guide

Even when traveling abroad, I've never booked through a tour. I've saved so much money planning my trips and excursions myself. It may take more time and effort, but it's worth it! My favorite website to book flights, hotels, and car rental on when traveling abroad is though tripsmasters.com. My husband and I used this to travel to Ireland, Paris, and Amsterdam. Each of our trips was under $2000 for flight, hotel, and transportation for both of us! I haven't found prices that good anywhere else. I will let you know if I ever do!

Be flexible and realistic

I have a huge list of places I want to travel, but I'm flexible on where I'm going to go next, based on how much it's going to cost and how much money I have to spend. Also, prioritize what's more important to you on your trip- like eating at a fancy restaurant vs going on a unique excursion.

I love finding ways to save money, so please share with me what your money-saving tricks are in the comments!!
